Spinner and bottlenose dolphins live off this coast all year, and from June to November humpback whales pass through on their way to warmer water to calve, which makes the run between Black River and Le Morne one of the better stretches of sea in Mauritius for watching either. The boats leave early because that is when the water is calmest and the animals are most active, and Captain Amaury keeps his distance and lets them decide how close they want to come. This is watching from the boat rather than swimming, which is the honest way to see wild animals and the only way we sell it.

The crew meet you at the Le Morne Anglers Club in Black River while the water is still flat and take the boat out.

The captain works the stretch of coast where the dolphins usually hold, reading the water rather than heading for a fixed spot.

The engine comes down and the boat sits off at a respectful distance so the animals can carry on as they were.

Between June and November the crew also watch for humpbacks, which pass along this coast on their migration.

The run back takes in the west coast and the cliffs of Le Morne Brabant from the water.

The boat returns to the club at the end of the four hours.
