The sea floor falls away only a few miles off Grande Riviere Noire, so the boat is fishing proper blue water within a short run of the mooring rather than burning half the charter getting there. Captain Amaury has worked these drop-offs and channels for years and sets the spread according to the season, which means blue marlin through the summer months and yellowfin through the cooler ones. Heavy tackle, fighting gear and outriggers are on board, so a first timer gets talked through the fight while an experienced angler is left alone to fish.
The crew meet you at the Le Morne Anglers Club in Black River, run through the plan for the day and take the boat out.
The drop-off is close to shore here, so the boat is over deep water not long after leaving the mooring.
Lures and baits go out on the outriggers and the captain works the channels and the edges where the bait holds.
When a reel goes, the crew clear the other lines and coach whoever is on the rod through the fight.
The captain keeps moving between marks for the time you have booked, changing the spread as the day goes on.
The boat returns to the club at the end of the booked time.
