Popping and jigging is the physical end of sport fishing, where you are casting a big surface lure at the reef edge and winding it back hard enough to make it look like something in trouble, or dropping a jig down the drop-off and working it up through the water column. The reward is the take, which on a giant trevally is about as violent as fishing gets. Captain Amaury runs this around Ile aux Benitiers, picking the marks by the tide and the conditions, and the boat carries the rods and lures so you do not need to travel with your own.

The crew meet you at the Le Morne Anglers Club in Black River and take the boat south along the coast.

The captain works towards the marks around Ile aux Benitiers, choosing them by the tide and the conditions.

Big surface lures go out along the reef edge, worked back hard to draw a strike from trevally.

Over the drop-offs the jigs go down and get worked up through the water, which is what reaches the dogtooth tuna and the snapper.

The crew coach you through the fight, which on a good trevally is a short and very physical one.

The boat returns to the club at the end of the booked time.
